Aleyna Günay’s practice revolves around re-contextualizing everyday objects to expose the economic and societal forces shaping our surroundings. Her research-based work examines how systems and policies deconstruct the meaning we attribute to objects. By revealing the power embedded in infrastructure, she uncovers the intricate dynamics at play beneath the surface and develops a distinct visual language.
Her work explores the relationship between human agency and societal progress, particularly as society grows increasingly dependent on automated processes. She examines the implications for labor, control, and shifting boundaries of power.
Working across sculpture, writing, installation, and sound, she has also been performing live under an alias since 2018 as part of her ongoing sound project, expanding her inquiry into sonic environments and performative structures.
Günay has been selected for Plattform 25 and will present her new work at Centre d’Art Neuchâtel in May 2025.
She lives and works in Zurich.
