Azar Pajuhandeh
Azar Pajuhandeh was born in 1982 in Tehran, Iran. She completed a BA in Industrial Design from Art University Tehran and an MA in Fine Arts from Kassel Art Academy. Based in her studio in Berlin, she creates multi-piece installations comprising such materials as photographs, drawings and textiles. Using visual techniques such as blow-up, zooming and deformation, she internalises images to emphasize and interrogate the political, social and sexual norms and constraints inherent in the representations. Her recent works on paper and canvas are focused on the female body. Fear, loss of control, refusal and exhilaration are expressed by her figures. She reflects upon the depiction of women in Orientalist art and popular media in relation to her self-identity as an artist. She collects captures from newspapers and books as a basis for her process. Her works have been exhibited in different galleries in Iran, Germany, Poland, Netherland and Switzerland.
