Chantal Michelle is a composer and artist based between New York City and Berlin. Through the architectural manipulation of sound, she constructs intricate and densely textured compositions that disorient and immerse, inviting alternate forms of perception. She is interested in the spatial and tactile properties of sound, and her artistic practice often employs feedback, multichannel speaker arrays, and psychoacoustic phenomena as a means of exploration. Her body of work includes site-responsive installations, hand-blown glass instruments, ensemble performances, and recorded material.
Michelle has presented her work internationally, including at Fridman Gallery [US], Cafe OTO [UK], MUTEK [MX], Het HEM [NL], The Stone [US], and Opus 40 [US]. Her discography has been published on Dinzu Artefacts, SUPERPANG, Warm Winters Ltd., and Somewhere Press, among other labels. She has collaborated with composers and musicians such as Lea Bertucci, Germán Bringas, Joanna Mattrey, and Patrick Shiroishi. In 2022,
she formed the experimental noise project ⎤⎤⎤ with multidisciplinary artist Grace Villamil. She holds a Master’s of Fine Arts from Bard College, Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts [US]
