Fatma Shanan is a contemporary artist based in Zurich. She focuses on figurative oil painting, exploring themes of identity, gender, and ethnicity through theatrical and enigmatic scenes drawn from her life.
Shanan paintings are inherently related to a performative preparatory work that precedes them. Shanan seeks to expose the viewer not only to a picturesque medium, but also to an expression of performance.
Shanan participated in group show at Kunsthaus museum Zurich (2023); the Contemporary Art Museum of Villa Croce Italy (2022); and Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Paris, among others. Shanan exhibited solo at DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM Gallery, Berlin;Tel Aviv museum and more.
