Fatma Shanan

1986*, Israel

Fatma Shanan (1986) born and raised in Julis, Israel. Based in Tel Aviv and Zurich. She focuses on figurative painting and video art. Her works are characterized by theatrical and enigmatic views on scenes. Shanan’s recent work was inspired by the writings of the American poet Walt Whitman, where he states that nature is where human freedom resides in its purest form. Shanan’s works wish to explore the duality between individual sovereignty on one hand, and cohesion on the other.

Shanan is the winner of the 2016 Haim Shiff Prize for Figurative-Realist Art award. She exhibited solo at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (2017), at the DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM Gallery, Berlin (2021) and more. Shanan’s work participated in group shows and art-fairs at venues such as Art Colonge (2021); The Museum for Islamic Art, Jerusalem (2020);  Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Paris (2018) among others.

Upcoming group exhibition TIME will be taking place at the Kunsthaus Museum in Zurich in September 2023.
