Joppe Venema’s residency at Fundaziun Nairs is supported by Stichting Stokroos
Joppe Venema (b. 1998, NL) sees his practice as an antenna network attuned to the invisibility of energy and radiation, and how this connects to various forms of knowledge in which spiritual and religious thought, conspiracy theories, and (pseudo)scientific frameworks converge. His work and research are exercises in perceiving realities beyond the human electromagnetic spectrum, as well as exploring infrastructural entanglement and its interweaving with questions of ecology, politics, and technology. The idea that humans have always been part of nature is a fundamental aspect of his thinking. This manifests through in-situ installations, sculpture, video, photography, and sound works.
Joppe Venema had recent group exhibitions at Loods 6 (Amsterdam) Cacaofabriek, (Helmond, NL) Punt WG (Amsterdam) Campis, (Assen, NL) ZERO foundation (Dusseldorf, DE), Radius CCA (Delft, NL), and solo exhibitions at Willie (Zaandam) CLAPTRAP, (Antwerp, BE) In 2023, Venema completed the residency at De Ateliers in Amsterdam. He lives and works in Amsterdam.
