Martha Mutapay

Martha Mutapay is a dancer, performer, and theatre-maker working at the intersection of choreography, craft, and pedagogy. Her practice blends physical theatre, movement, and textile processes to explore care, co-existence, and the social politics of bodies in relation. She approaches choreography as a relational practice — weaving connections, making care visible, and questioning who is allowed to move, teach, and be seen.
During the residency, Martha will collaborate with Arina Frölich and Kymbali Williams on shared, body-based research exploring everyday practices of friendship through movement scores and actions such as cooking, storytelling, listening to music, dancing, and resting. Their work investigates friendship as a site of embodiment, relational labor, and transformation, using movement and voice improvisation, craft techniques, and everyday rituals. Their aim is to make the practices and transformative potential of friendship visible, experiential, and shareable.
Martha brings craft and technical approaches, while Arina connects embodied practice with gender theory and cultural anthropology. Together, they use performance as both artistic expression and research method.
Martha is currently developing „choreographic dialogues: Threads of Care,“ where craft actions become movement scores carrying stories of diaspora, queerness, and belonging. Her work creates spaces where bodies, materials, and narratives meet — cultivating tenderness, responsibility, and collective imagination.
Based in Zurich, Martha holds a BA in Theatre from Accademia Teatro Dimitri and a BA of Arts in Education. Martha, Arina and Kymbali are all part of the Performing Rage Collective.
