Babette Walder (*1999 in Zürich) lives and works in Basel. She holds a BA in Fine Arts at Institute Art Gender Nature of HGK FHNW. Her works have been shown at Kunsthaus Baselland, Kunsthaus Pasquart, Kunstmuseum Thun, Momentum Berlin (DE), Fundaziun Nairs, Lokal-Int, FABRIKkulture (FR) and more.Babette Walder is also active in several musical and curatorial projects (eg. flirt collective) and as an artist’s assistant.
In her artistic practice, she combines handbuilt ceramics and textile techniques to create odd and affectionate objects. Her sculpture installations work as critical, material bodies which challenge ideas around normativity and gender. In dead serious idiocy, the works tension between bitter realities and playful expression. With a tactile formal language, her works push and pull interaction and draw closer to the precious and strange bodies of others.
