Dario Calderone (Rome,1978) is a sound artist and a double bass player based in Amsterdam. His artistic personality has developed over more than 20 years by working in strict collaborations with Stefano Scodanibbio, Roberth Ashley, Christian Marclay, Salvatore Sciarrino and Beat Furrer. From 2009 to 2019 he has been the bass player of the Nieuw Ensemble (NL). He is currently a member of Nieuw Amsterdam Peil (NL), Trio Feedback (ES), and MAZE (NL). An internationally acclaimed performer, he has played a crucial role in developing new repertoire for solo double bass: several pieces have been composed for him by Peter Ablinger, Giorgio Netti, Peter Adraansz, Yannis Kyriakides, Bernhard Lang, Helena Tulve, Silvia Borzelli, Alberto Posadas, and many others. His compositions have been supported by the Fonds Podiumkunsten, the Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunsten, and SENA, and his installations were presented at GNAM in Rome and Manifesta in Palermo. He released for Hat-Hut Records, Kairos, Stradivarius, Unsounds and Moving Furnitures.
