Gian Suhner

1987*, Chur / Berlin

Gian Suhner (1987 in Savognin, Switzerland) is a filmmaker, writer, and visual artist living between Berlin and Chur.

Coming from a background in history and sociology (University of Basel and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), he began studying directing at the German Film and Television Academy (DFFB) in Berlin in 2015, where he created several short films that have been screened at numerous festivals in Germany and abroad.

Following his first collaboration «LET’S TALK ABOUT MOUNTAINS. A Cinematic Approach to North Korea» with the museum ALPS, he recently produced as co-curator and film director the special exhibition «GREENLAND. Everything Changes», which is on display until August 2026 at ALPS, Bern. Spanning 800 sqm and realized through three extended research and filming trips to Greenland / Kalaallit Nunaat, the four-hour video parcours gives voice to over 30 Indigenous protagonists and explores the many layers of transformation in the age of globalization and decolonization.

Gian Suhner is currently researching his first feature-length fiction film, which explores questions of male emancipation, language, and identity.

After numerous projects in Berlin and abroad, this project – and his stay in Nairs – marks a re-encounter with his roots in Grisons.
