Yves Möhrle

1999*, Lucern, Switzerland

Yves Möhrle (1999* in Luzerne, CH) working with photography, sculpture, installation and text, currently living in Basel, Switzerland.

My artistic work is characterized by an intense exploration of the relationship between humans and nature, particularly the tensions and challenges that arise in the Anthropocene. I am fascinated by how humans attempt to understand, influence or control the uncontrollable forces of nature, and how contradictions and paradoxes often arise in the process. I am particularly interested in how our actions – whether individual or social – influence and are shaped by nature. My work often explores the tension between control and powerlessness, between the desire to tame the forces of nature and the knowledge of their unpredictability. I am also interested in how political, scientific and social structures react to these phenomena, and the role of power relations such as patriarchal or technocratic ways of thinking. A central motif of my work is to reflect on how people deal with risks and disasters. Are human efforts actually lead to progress, or whether they merely treat the symptoms without addressing the causes. This debate leads to a critical examination of modern society and its often contradictory relationship with the natural world.
